Performance coaching is a type of therapy that has become very familiar over the last seven years. The term coaching first became beloved in the United States where, together with NLP, it became part of a redesigned brilliant wave of remarkably proactive therapy modalities. In many ways both Performance Coaching and Neuro Linguistic Programming are an answer against certain variants of the human-centred therapy movement, in particular Humanistic and Person Centred Counselling. A problem of the human-centred therapy approach is that it is astonishingly reactive and not awfully proactive. Life coaching is not about preaching to the client what to do. This is a common misconception. Some therapists are relatively successful in their business careers and then make the cross over to life coaching, thinking that they will at most be required to divulge their pearls of brilliant wise wisdom with the client. Sharing pearls of wisdom is more like mentoring a person in a specific environment. Lifestyle coaching is instead about life as a holistic view.
