How to Get Rid of Cellulite Through Exercising

Posted on Monday 5 January 2009

One thing that a lot of people do not realize is the fact that there is no one cure for cellulite, actually there is not a cure at all. What they have are treatments and such but there is no one thing that completely rids you of cellulite. Some people ask the question how to get rid of cellulite through exercising and the answer is really simple. When you take into consideration the fact that there are any number of exercises that will help with the cellulite you learn that there is nothing that you should not be doing in the exercise realm. The fact is that you need to be properly working out the body in all forms to ensure that the fat that you have stored to ensure that it does not turn into cellulite. This can be accomplished in a good many ways to be honest. There is no shortage of exercises that can be done on a daily basis and they are very low impact to reassure those that are not in the best of health. When you take the fact that these exercises are very common and will not take up too much of the time that you have. There are a lot of exercises that are specific to the cellulite problem in general and that means that you will be doing nothing more than ensuring that you will be the one on the block without all of the problems that come with cellulite. This is very good news for the people who do not want to spend a lot of money on the treatments that are available because of the fact that most people do not have the money that the medical community wants for the cellulite treatments.

If you are still asking how to get rid of cellulite through exercise then you should take the time to look at the other exercise regimens that are prescribed for other problems. If you are doing a long cardio work out each day then you are actually doing a lot for the body when it comes to the cellulite problem. The body simply needs the skills to help with the break down of the fat that is being stored and not allowing it to turn into cellulite and attach to the skin.

Aaron Spelling Spelled Success - An Appreciation

Posted on Monday 5 January 2009

The TV industry has lost one of its most successful producers. Aaron Spelling, 83, the son of Russian Jewish immigrants, has made it from a poor kid to the creator of such unforgettable shows as the CHARLIE’S ANGELS, DYNASTY, and THE LOVE BOAT has passed away in Los Angeles, as a result of a stroke.

Early on, Spelling’s writing ability worked very well for him. A small and frail kid often harassed at school, he had a nervous breakdown at the age of 8 and that’s when took it to reading while recuperating in bed. Soon he was inventing stories to himself and putting them on paper as well.

Spelling’s real break as a screenwriter came when he started to contribute regularly to the DICK POWEL’S ZANE GREY THEATER. Next step was producing the shows he was writing at a terrific pace. He started with the SMOTHERS BROTHERS SHOW and never looked back.

Some of his shows received bad reviews in the media but were nevertheless box office hits with the public. CHARLIE’S ANGELS was one such show. Among his other very popular productions are STARSKY AND HUTCH, HART TO HART, FANTASY ISLAND, MATT HOUSTON and THE MOD SQUAD.

He lived in a Hollywood mansion that once belonged to Bing Crosby. His daughter actor Tori Spelling starred in another of his hit shows, BEVERLY HILLS 90210.

Spelling spelled success. He was one of those entertainment geniuses that come once in a life time. May he rest in the real FANTASY ISLAND, together with real ANGELS.

Training to Prevent Running Cramps

Posted on Sunday 4 January 2009

You can help prevent running cramps by performing exercises that create change in your program. By this I mean doing things that aren’t part of the normal routine - mixing it up, if you will. A by-product of this training is that it is sure to enhance running power, speed and performance.

Following are some suggestions to add to your training program. The idea is to get the muscle fatigued in different ways:

1) Tempo training - work on getting your stride rate up to 180 per minute. This is a must for all runners.

2) Interval training - involves training such as ‘Fartlek’ where you vary your speed during an exercise period of around 45 minutes. Developed by Swedish Coach Gosta Holma, Fartlek translates as ’speed play’.

3) One-leg squats - the benefits of learning to squat with one leg include more strength, flexibility and muscular coordination.

4) Hill training - my favourite and very applicable for people who suffer running calf cramps and especially if you plan on racing on a hilly course. Racing on hills is almost guaranteed to cause leg cramping, particularly in the latter stages of an event. This is because of the high workload placed on a small muscle group.

5) Running with a weighted vest or pack.

6) Hill training with a weighted vest or pack.

7) Soft sand running - ideal to develop strength in the feet and calves.

Combinations of the above - for example, perform interval training while running up a sand hill using hand weights.

You can also focus on different aspects more or less at different times of the year. For example, I prefer to do a lot more soft sand running and hill work in the cooler months.

All of these running-specific exercises will improve your running strength and your calf strength and endurance making them more resilient when it comes to the big race or event.

And if you’re a very experienced runner, then incorporating some more varied sessions can not only help you with leg cramps, you can use it as a way to actually reduce the distances you run in training and still maintain the same times or go even faster.

This kind of goes against what most people think, however I’m of the firm opinion that as we get more experienced, less is better.

And if you take a look at many of the older Olympic athletes, they sure don’t train the distances they trained when they first started out. They use competition, appropriate rest and specialised training sessions as the basis of their plan.

For other sports, you could talk with your coach and team mates and design training games that focus on and mimic some of the most difficult physical movements demanded of your body.

Ideally this type of training should form around 20 to 25% of your routine - any more and you could start to sacrifice speed for strength.

Monitor the results over a period of 6 months and be flexible in terms of how you construct your training plan

Responsible Recreation in the BackCountry

Posted on Saturday 3 January 2009

Having a good time is pretty high on everyone’s to do list, especially when surrounded by awesome views and super-awesome friends. We hike, bike, climb, camp, raft, fish, hunt, four-wheel, sleep and eat - among other things - in the backcountry. If not done properly, that’s a lot of wear and tear on our natural resources. Responsible recreation ensures future outdoor enthusiasts the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors as you have. Without a recreation code of ethics, our backcountry would become a thing of the past. Here are some universally agreed upon keys for having a good time - the right way.

-Take only pictures, leave only footprints. If you carry it in, carry it out. This will eliminate litter.

-Protect water sources from contamination. Use bio-degradable soap, or try hot water soap-less dishwashing, bathing and clothes washing. When using soap (even bio-degradable) and toothpaste, dispose of the wastewater at least 100 feet away from natural water sources, well or faucet water sources.

-Be a good neighbor - control your noise and your pets. Always keep your dog on a leash no longer than 6 feet, and away from public swimming areas. Barking and not cleaning up after pets leads to many complaints from other outdoor enthusiasts. Do not leave pets unattended.

-Be respectful of the natural environment - keep the trees and shrubs alive and growing.
Nails and wires should not be used on trees because they can cause serious damage to trees. Burn damage will permanently scar or kill a tree.

-When hiking or biking, stay on designated trails. This keeps damage to vegetation and erosion in one place.

-Before leaving your campsite, clean your fire pit and your campsite. Make it as clean as you would want it if you were arriving that day. The next user will appreciate it.

Leave-No-Trace, www.lnt.org, offers the following Principles for Outdoor Ethics: Plan Ahead and Prepare, Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces, Dispose of Waste Properly, Leave What You Find, Minimize Campfire Impacts, Respect Wildlife and Be Considerate of Other Visitors.

Here is the Tread Lightly!, www.treadlightly.org, pledge: Travel and recreate with minimum impact, Respect the environment and the rights of others, Educate yourself - plan and prepare before you go, Allow for future use of the outdoors - leave it better than you found it and Discover the rewards of responsible recreation.

Responsible recreation means having the common sense and the courtesy to enjoy the backcountry without spoiling someone else’s experience. Most outdoor enthusiasts understand this very well and spend a good deal of their time restoring, enhancing and conserving our backcountry. Have a good time when you’re outdoors and share these keys with your friends.

Gilmore Girls (DVD) Review

Posted on Friday 2 January 2009

Nominated for 1 Emmy and 1 Golden Globe in its first five seasons, Gilmore Girls has experienced much greater success among TV viewers than among industry critics. In fact, the show is the first script supported by the Family Friendly Forum’s script development fund to go on and become a regular television series. Part of an initiative between The WB Network - maker of such hits as Dawson’s Creek (1998), Felicity (1998), Angel (1999), and Smallville (2001) - and fellow industry executives, this push for more family-oriented programming resulted in a series showcasing a unique mother-daughter bond and the various people they encounter on their life voyage of discovery. Set in the fictional town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut, Gilmore Girls utilizes many of the same sets as the hit series The Dukes Of Hazzard (1979) - another successful Warner Brothers production from years past…

Gilmore Girls is set in a small idyllic community in Connecticut filled with a wide range of diverse characters and eccentric personalities. Against this backdrop, Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) attempts to raise her daughter and best friend, Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel), to carve out a better life for herself. Having made a number of youthful mistakes, Lorelai made the decision to raise her daughter by herself at a young age (the same age as Rory when the series begins), and she’s bound and determined to make sure that Rory makes better decisions for herself. As Rory prepares to go off to college, she displays many of the same likes and dislikes as her mother - especially when it comes to the opposite sex, and that’s what worries Lorelai the most… A borderline soap opera, Gilmore Girls is more of a serial drama that focuses on the love, friendship, and shared growth of a mother and daughter as they live out their dreams in modern day America…

The Gilmore Girls DVD features a number of touching episodes including the series premiere in which Rory is accepted to a very prestigious prep school named Chilton. But Lorelai struggles to come up with the tuition money necessary to send her, so she contacts her estranged parents for a loan. They agree to provide Rory with the tuition if Lorelai will agree to have a family dinner with them every Friday. Meanwhile, Rory has developed a crush on a recent transfer student, making her apprehensive about attending Chilton. When Lorelai finds out that a boy is the source of Rory’s uncertainty, the two get in a fight with Lorelai fearing that Rory will follow in her own path of bad decisions. However, after the family dinner with Lorelai’s parents, Rory realizes the sacrifice her mother has made in asking for the loan, and the two make up… Other notable episodes from Season 1 include “Forgiveness and Stuff” in which a feuding Rory and Lorelai settle their differences just in time for Christmas, and “The Third Lorelai” in which Emily opposes her mother-in-law’s offer to set up a trust fund for Rory because she’s afraid it will mean an end to her contact with her granddaughter…

Alaska Salmon Fishing

Posted on Wednesday 31 December 2008

Alaska has a well developed tourism sector that welcomes thousands of anglers from all over the world each year. Since Alaska is such a huge land area with a long coast line and numerous streams and rivers, you can still enjoy secluded wildlife fishing without having to venture into crowds of other fishermen.

Sport fishers that travel to Alaska will typically purchase an all-inclusive trip since this means that they can focus entirely on fishing and waste no time looking for accommodations, worrying about logistics and searching for restaurants while being far away from any town. Since many parts of Alaska is inaccessible by ordinary cars, finding a fishing trip arranger that can provide you with small catered airplanes, off-road vehicles and fishing boats is a very good idea. Having someone else taking care of the meal arrangements when you are off in the wilderness is also appreciated by many sport fishers.

When you begin to shop around for a trip adviser you should ideally compare many different trip arrangers before you select one. Take advantage of the Internet and compare prices and services online, and don’t hesitate to send e-mails or call different companies to find out about details that are important to you. When you look around for a trip arranger, it can be useful to keep in mind that Alaska is divided into six regions: Southwest Alaska, Southeast Alaska, Alaska Interior, South Central, the Kenai Peninsula, and the Kodiak region. Southwest Alaska is where you will find the large Bristol Bay; an area very popular among sport fishers. Southeast Alaska will contain fishing destinations such as the Price of Wales Island, while Alaska Interior is where you should go if you want to enjoy fishing in the Copper River. South Central is situated next to the Prince William Sound, and the Kenai Peninsula is of course the region in which you will find the Kenai River. Finally, the Kodiak region is where you can fish salmon in the famous River Kodiak.

If you really want to splash out during your Alaska salmon fishing your can choose one of the exclusive private islands where you will enjoy first-rate accommodation, supreme restaurants and even be pampered with saunas and steam rooms after a long day of fishing. Others prefer a more rough and traditional way of life during their fishing trip, and enjoy the quite life of a simple hut far away from any signs of civilization. Chop your own wood and create a cosy fire, cook the catch of the day on the old-fashion stove and spend the evening in candle light or watching the stars far away from any stressful urban dwellings.

When you research the different accommodation alternatives, it is important to find out how many people they can accommodate. Some private Alaskan trip organisers will only be able to receive a few individuals, which makes them a great alternative if you are travelling alone or with a small company, but less suitable if you are a part of a large group.

The Big Middle Finger to Scientology

Posted on Wednesday 31 December 2008

Take that Isaac Hayes, you got owned by 2 of the most brilliant men in Comedy. The new season of South Park just got done airing, it was the biggest middle finger to scientology. If you do not know by now, you’re slow but i’ll fill you in. Isaac Hayes, the voice of Chef, quit South Park about a week ago because of some religious issues (Trapped in The Closet Episode). Anyway back to the new season (Episode 1001 The Return of Chef). This episode was well crafted and made, I read that it took matt and trey only a few days to make this and they decided to air it before the other scheduled episodes.

The show consisted of Chef returning back to South Park after joining what the boys like to refer to as “the fruity club”. This club brainwashed Chef into being a Child Molestor. Now when Chef returned he sounded choppy and unfinished as if they were using old audio clips from past episodes. The boys then slowly find out something is truly wrong with Chef and try to make him normal again. So they take him to a strip joint. Here he is turned straight by this severely obese black women. After this, Chef is quickly tranquilized and taken back to the Fruity club meeting place. Where they try and convert him back to a Child Molester. To sum it up the kids break in rescue him. BUT! On their way out they cross a bridge and the fruity club leader calls Chef and tells him to come back, chef then changes back his mind and makes his way back over the bridge when all the sudden lightning strikes the bridge causing chef to smash down several rocks get shot 3 times and torn to peices by a mountain lion and a bear, then craps himself, only to be killed off the most gruesome and disgusting way. Chef was killed off? Not exactly at the end of the show he was then brought back as CHEF VADER!!!

The definition of Scientology: This is an applied religious philosophy that contains workable answers to the problems people face in their lives. The subject matter of Scientology is all life. It contains practical means through which predictable improvement can be obtained in any area to which it is applied.

In the episode no one really had any answers to what was happening in their lives which is the opposite of Scientology. Scientology gets the middle finger. All in all you screw with Matt Stone & Trey Parker, you get what’s coming to you!

Matt & Trey - 1 | Scientology - 0

Student Travel - Backpacking In Europe

Posted on Wednesday 31 December 2008

For the fortunate few, life isn’t complete without a backpacking trip through Europe. This right of passage is believed to further the maturation process of college students, according to sociologists. Of course, others have opined that copious amounts of alcohol, sun and Amsterdam have something to do with it. Regardless of your purpose, you still have to figure out what to take.

Backpack - Getting In Touch With Your Inner Mule

Obviously, the first critical item is your backpack. While one doesn’t need to buy the $10,000 Himalaya Turbo Pack, you should also avoid the $12 blue light special. So, how do you pick a happy middle ground?

The best method for picking a backpack involves three phone books. Select/swipe/borrow three yellow page books from neighbors/friends/enemies and hit your local sporting goods store. With the books, head to the backpackapalozza section of the store and pick out a few sturdy/cool/outrageous rigs. Stuff the phone books in, adjust the straps and go for a walk. Now break out into a run to simulate future dashes for trains/ ferries/ toilets and make the sales people nervous. These steps should quickly reveal the perfect pack.

Now, you may have read other publications suggesting highly technical ways to select a backpack. Trust me, until you have run for the last ferry from Italy to Greece, you have no idea how to pick a pack. The three phone book test solves this nicely.

What To Take

There are a few mantras that every person should chant before packing for Europe. These chants were developed originally by the little known, Oh-My-Back Monks of Southeast Asia. The “OMB” Monks were known for traveling half way to far off cities, turning around, returning home and then traveling the full way to said cities. Religious experts opined as to the deep metaphysical meaning of such trips. They were later embarrassed when the monks revealed the back and forth nature of the trips was due to forgetting something, often whether they had turned off the iron. Nonetheless, such chants have become the guiding light of experienced backpackers.

Let us slowly and clearly chant together,

“I will pack only that which will not result in me being hunched over like a Sherpa.”

“Remember, I can pick it [(lower voice) toothpaste, book, soap] up over there.”

“I will not stuff thy pack to the point of bursting, for thy damn zippers always break/get snagged/refuse to work.”

“I will learn humility through wearing incredibly wrinkled clothes and shall not bring an iron.”

“I shall bring only one guide book, not one for each country that I MIGHT see.”

“I accept that I will come home wearing something I didn’t take and will have lost/traded/burned much of what I did take.”

For female travelers and, okay, the occasional male,

“I will not bring high heels or a gaggle of make-up.”

Admittedly, chanting these mantras will not bringing you immediate enlightenment. Fret, not. You can always throw items away or send them home in a box to your parents/friends/parole officer. For the resourceful backpacker, it is not unheard of to send particularly smelly/discolored/toxic clothing to an ex-girlfriend/ex-boyfriend/little brother. Follow these practical guidelines and you will soon happily be speaking in a loud voice to make foreigners understand you.

The Evidence

This is the hard part for most travelers to wrap their minds around. You will forget those special moments of your trip when you met the hunk Sven or babe Svenetta from Sweden and had a romantic evening/danced the night away/got arrested in Ios/Ibiza/the airport. Maybe not immediately, but you will eventually forget.

You will also forget or lose the contact information of people you meet, despite meticulously writing it down on the back of a coaster/napkin/your hand in a bar/poetry reading/jail at three in the morning. Surprisingly, said coaster/napkin/hand often survive the night/day/weekend and get deposited in your already trashed backpack. Of course, their presence is often forgotten when you later put a Oktoberfest mug/wet towel/toothbrush in. The extra padding at the bottom of your pack is specifically designed to deal with the decomposing result. Still, the information is gone and so is your future with Sven/Svenetta.

To properly record the magical moments of your trip, you must take a diary or journal. Don’t worry, you can burn it later before you get married/your parents get nosey/you have kids. You want a journal in a water/beer/sweat resistant case. Of course, I prefer a Nomad Travel Journal, but just make sure you take something. When you have some extra time in the bus/train/jail cell, you can record how you got there and the people you met.

Trust me, when you, Sven/Svenetta and your nine children are sitting on the porch, you will greatly enjoy reading your journal.

Of course, that assumes you didn’t burn it.
